Thank you Eco Chic Cayman for naming Sage Larock designer Taryn Larock an Inspiring Woman on International Woman’s Day Helping the Planet
Taryn Larock, is a sustainable luxury fashion designer and founder of Sage Larock. SAGE LAROCK was founded in 2015 and is based in Los Angles, California. Taryn is dedicated to creating fashion that is both stylish and sustainable. As an ocean lover, Taryn is committed to using sustainable fashion as a platform to raise ocean awareness. SAGE LAROCK’s sustainable luxury swimsuit line is made from ECONYL yarn, that is made from upcycled fishing lines and marine plastic debris. A portion from their sales proceeds goes directly towards NGO’s HealthySeas.org, Ghost Divers and NGO Canopy.
We were honored to accept the Los Angeles Business Journal’s award to honor Sage Larock as the best Made in California brand of 2018, and are grateful for their support of sustainable & locally produced fashion. We were also honored to be nominated by PETA for this award.

Why do we make all of our swimwear out of upcycled plastic debris from the oceans and upcycled fishing nets?
Because 8 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the oceans every year. That is the equivalent to five grocery bags of plastic trash being stacked up on every single foot of coastline around the globe. It is estimated that ghost nets, transparent plastic (non-biodegradable) fishing nets, often over a mile long, kill millions of marine animals every year as they drift beneath the surface of our oceans drowning seals, whales, sharks, turtles, dolphins and other fish, and wiping out thousands of miles of coral reefs. Each year, at least 640,000 tonnes of nets and other fishing gear goes overboard and never comes back, and if left to drift in our oceans, these nets create mile long death traps.
But we believe this is unacceptable. Instead of creating new polyester fabric, which all non-recycled content swimwear is made from, we only use ECONYL yarn, made from upcycled fishing lines and marine plastic debris. This not only stops new plastic (polyester) from being created, but also helps our oceans, and allows us to create all Sage Larock swimwear out of the finest material, which is chlorine & sun oil resistant and has an SPF of 50.

SAGE LAROCK: NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL LUXURY FASHION
In an effort to buy fewer, better things that we intend on keeping for the long-haul, it’s important to focus just as much on the fit and comfort of our ethical fashion pieces as on the way it’s made. Because the more we love a piece, the more we’ll wear it and the longer we’ll keep it (i.e. we’ll buy less stuff and have less waste. This mindset has led me to LA label Sage Larock, a brand designing “clothing that is naturally beautiful both inside and out”.
One look at the Sage Larock site and it’s clear that their aesthetics are right on point: beautifully designed, simple pieces that exude effortless glam. And by producing their garments made-to-order in Los Angeles with ecological materials, such as hemp and organic cotton, Sage Larock ensures their garments are as easy on the earth as they are easy to wear.
